What We Do
For 30 years, Abacus Flooring has sanded and polished timber floors right across the Northern Beaches, from Manly and Dee Why and up to Palm Beach. Living in a coastal area takes its toll on timber floors, so we’re used to dealing with sun-faded boards and the swelling or gapping that salt air and humidity can cause over time.
Floor Sanding & Polishing
We sand floors back to bare timber, then apply a protective coating in your choice of a matte, satin, or gloss finish.
Floor Staining
Before the final polish, we can apply a stain to change or enhance the timber's colour, such as a whitewashed or limewashed finish.
Staircase Sanding & Restoration
Staircases, balustrades, handrails, and landings all get the same treatment we give the rest of your floor, sanded and refinished to match.
Floorboard Restoration
If you have any damaged, cupped, or missing boards, we can repair or replace them so your sanded and polished floor sits flat and even.
Where We Sand Floors on the Northern Beaches
Floor Sanding Manly
As one of the Northern Beaches oldest areas a lot of the streets behind the beach are filled with Federation and Californian bungalow cottages with the timber floors that came with them. These boards that have been under layers of paint, carpet or lino for decades, often come up better than our clients expect once we sand them back.
We’ve also had jobs in apartments near and along North Steyne and South Steyne to bring the timber floors up looking brand new while sticking to the building's strata rules.
Floor Sanding Dee Why
In Dee Why we're mostly working in apartments and units. This typically means bringing original floorboards back to life in the older blocks, or doing a recoat on newer units before the finish wears through to bare wood.
The Strand and Pittwater Road have also given us a fair bit of commercial work, fitting in around trading hours or during quieter periods wherever we can.
Floor Sanding Narrabeen
Narrabeen tends to bring us more family homes with floorboards worn in by kids, pets and furniture, and owners who want a finish that can last for another ten years of living, not just a few open homes.
With a history of flooding, any floor we work on near the lagoon also gets checked properly for moisture and past water damage before we start. Boards that have taken on damp over the years can sometimes require a different treatment compared to a standard sand and recoat.
Floor Sanding Mona Vale
Mona Vale has a lot more freestanding homes than further down the coast, so almost all of our jobs here have been houses. We're often refinishing original hardwood in the older postwar homes, or matching new boards into an existing floor after a renovation or extension so the old and new sections blend.
Beyond these areas, we also work on homes and businesses in Balgowlah, Frenchs Forest, Elanora Heights, Avalon Beach and Warriewood.
