Timber Floor Sanding North Shore, Sydney
What We Do
Abacus Flooring sands and polishes timber floors across the North Shore and Northern District, from Hornsby and Wahroonga through to Mosman and Chatswood. We’ve been doing this for 30 years, working on everything from original hardwood in federation homes to engineered timber in newer apartments.

Floor Sanding & Polishing
We sand floors back to bare timber, then apply a protective coating in your choice of a matte, satin, or gloss finish.

Floor Staining
Before the final polish, we can apply a stain to change or enhance the timber's colour, such as a whitewashed or limewashed finish.

Staircase Sanding & Restoration
Staircases, balustrades, handrails, and landings all get the same treatment we give the rest of your floor, sanded and refinished to match.

Floorboard Restoration
If you have any damaged, cupped, or missing boards, we can repair or replace them so your sanded and polished floor sits flat and even.
Where We Sand Floors on the North Shore
Timber Floor Sanding Artarmon
Artarmon's mix of federation homes and brick units means we see a lot of original hardwood that's never been touched, along with floors that have only had a rough DIY sand at some point. This also means we often see dramatic transformations after a full sand and refinish.
We also work on the commercial spaces around Hampden Road and the industrial units along Herbert Street, scheduling around business hours where needed.
Timber Floor Sanding Hornsby
Hornsby's older weatherboard and brick homes often have Baltic pine or blackbutt floors underneath carpet that's been down for decades. Once that's lifted, most floors sand back well even with staple holes or minor water staining. We service Hornsby and the surrounding Upper North Shore suburbs regularly and can quote from photos if you're not sure what's under the carpet yet.
Timber Floor Sanding North Sydney
North Sydney's mix of high-rise apartments and older residential streets away from the commercial core means we see two very different jobs here. In the apartment towers, it's often engineered or newer solid timber that just needs a light sand or buff between owners.
On the quieter streets closer to Crows Nest, there's still plenty of older hardwood people are finding under old carpet. Given how much of North Sydney is offices, we also do a fair amount of scheduling around business hours and building access, similar to what comes up in Artarmon.
Timber Floor Sanding Mosman
Most of the floors we work on in Mosman are original hardwood from the early 1900s often with old repairs or a few squeaky boards from a century of use. In the Art Deco and mid-century apartment buildings we’ve worked on closer to Spit Junction, the floors tend to be more straightforward solid or engineered timber needing a standard sand and polish.
The rest of our North Shore work covers a similar spread of character homes and newer builds, across these suburbs:
Upper North Shore: Turramurra, Wahroonga, Pymble, Gordon, Killara
Lower North Shore: Neutral Bay, Cammeray, Willoughby, Lane Cove, Chatswood
