Types of Timber Floor Finishes that Make Your New Home Look Elegant
When you are building a new home a timber floor adds warmth and sophistication to any room. There are so many things to think about when building that flooring is often overlooked. This is a mistake – flooring pieces together the look of your home and is a permanent feature.
There are many timber floor finishes available and it can be difficult to know which one to choose.
Modified Oils
Our quality modified oils have high solid content coatings. Two coats are applied and there is no need for a sealer. If the surface is dry to the touch, the floors can be walked on again with caution after 24 hours.
Timber Stains
Timber stains are popular after floor sanding and polishing. There are a number of beautiful shades available. Timber stains enhance the look of your timber and can completely change its appearance. A protective coating is applied over the stain to stop the colour from fading. Choose from the palest of hues to Japan black. There is something to suit every taste.
Solvent Based Polyurethane
Durable and long lasting these finishes take 8-10 hours to dry. Furniture cannot be replaced for 2-3 days after the finish is applied.
Water Based Polyurethane
This finish is very durable and is non-toxic. As the finish is water based your timber keeps its natural look. Water based polyurethane is popular for its natural appearance. It can sometimes be used without needing floor sanders to re-sand your floor. The stain dries in 2-3 hours. You can walk on the floor with no shoes after 8-10 hours and furniture can be placed back on the floor after 24 hours.
